【Abstract】Objective：To compare the clinical effects of maxillary protraction and FR-Ⅲ functional appliances in the treatment of anterior crossbite in mixed dentition,so as to provide information for clinical treatment. Methods：Forty patients with anterior crossbite were collected in oral department of Qingdao stomatological hospital, aged from 7 to 12 years, averaged at 9.6 years. Patients were divided into two treatment groups. One group was treated with Facemask orthopedic maxillary protraction by removable appliance, and the other group was treated with FR-Ⅲ appliances. Cephalometric film was taken for each patient before and after treatment. Lineal and angular changes of anatomic marks were calculated. Data were analyzed by paired-samples T test and independent-samples T test. Results：Crossbite were corrected successfully in two treatment groups. In facemask group, maxillary anterior teeth were procline, the effect of facemask group was marked .A point moved forward for 2.62mm, while length of maxillary increased for 2.36mm. In FR-Ⅲ group, mandibular anterior teeth were retrocline, while the mandibular occurred clockwise rotation. Conclusion：Maxillary Protraction and FR-Ⅲ can effectively improve skeletal crossbite and the coordintation between maxillary and mandibular. Maxillary protraction is more effective in the patients with maxillary deficiency, while FR-Ⅲ appliance can be used in those with unstable retention as well as slightly maxillary deficiency ......
