    [Abstract] Objective To investigate the connection between thy roid function and metabolic syndrome among elderly people.Methods This is a retrospective study w ith 1077 elderly people whom attended their annual health examination in our hos pital during 2009.Results The prevalence of metabolic syndrome showed a negativ e correlation with serum FT4 level. The prevalence was 21.94%, 7.91%, 15.04%and9.43% for the subjects with serum FT4 level in quartile 1, quartile 2, quartil e 3 and quartile 4 respectively (Ptrend<0.001). Multiple logistic regression an alysis showed that serum FT4 level was independently related to the risk factorsfor the metabolic syndrome (P<0.05).Conclusions This study indicated that thyroid function is signif icantly associated with metabolic syndrome in elderly people. ......
