Abstract: Analysis of the research on the model of ability-achievement discrepancy will promote the development of identification in learning disabilities. On the basis of discussing the historical context related to the discrepancy model, current research on this model is reviewed. In general, there are many disagreements about its theoretical foundation, validity and stability of this model. Future study should improve the theoretical construct, the operational definition, and the more effective identification procedures of this model.
