A brief review on International Symposium on Herbal Drug Research and Therapy(pdf)

Department of Natural Products, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research, S.A.S. Nagar, Punjab - 160 062.

International Symposium on Herbal Drug Research and Therapy was held on 9 and 10 December, 2006 in the Paintal Memorial Golden Jubilee Auditorium at Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute, University of Delhi, Delhi110007(India).

The organizing Secretary of the symposium welcomed all the dignitaries and delegates and thanked them for attending the symposium. In his speech, he discussed the theme on which the organizing committee has organized the symposium on Herbal Drug research and Therapy. He expressed his sincere gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the Director of the institute and to all the members of national and international advisory committee for their invaluable advice and help. The symposium has been organized rationally in relation to significance of herbal drugs development in the traditional systems of medicine in the Indian context particularly because of certain regulatory restrictions. The symposium was divided into eight lecture sessions as well as two separate poster sessions.

Session Ⅰ: Current Status of Herbal Drug Research

Session Ⅱ: Contentious Issues in Herbal Drug Research

Session Ⅲ: Newer Therapeutic Approaches with Herbal Drugs-Ⅰ

Session Ⅳ: Herbs in cardiovascular Disorders

Session Ⅴ: Newer Therapeutic Approaches with Herbal Drugs-Ⅱ

Session Ⅵ: Clinical Research with Herbal Drugs-Ⅰ

Session Ⅶ: Clinical Research with Herbal Drugs-Ⅱ

Session Ⅷ: Unani Medicine in Health and Disease

    Poster Session Ⅰ: (PP-1 to PP-9)

    Poster Session Ⅱ: (PP-10 to PP-17)

During the symposium there was ample opportunity for participants to present and discuss their own work in short lectures and on posters. The symposium has provided an ideal platform for the multidisciplinary interactions between scientists, clinicians, industrialists and professionals from both modern and alternative/traditional systems of medicine. Personally, I found that symposium was very much beneficial for the scientists like me because it has included important research areas like pharmacology/ toxicology / pharmacokinetics/ pharmacodynamics/ clinical aspects for the herbal drugs research and its development.
